Jessica Lundeberg
Jessica is fascinated by the phantasmal and the elusive, as well as by tales and fables. The gingerbread house in Brother Grimm’s Hansel and Gretel, and the mythological landscapes inspired by John Bauer appear in films
such as Blå timmen (Blue Hour). Birds and other animals are often present in her works. The narrative also plays a pivotal role, and the landscape or the extended room are scenes for the fragmentary stories. The stories do not reveal everything, but retain a core of mystery and contrariness, which
affords the beholders scope to make their own associations. Lundeberg is greatly inspired by her own life experiences and sensitivity, what is happening in the present, near at hand or in her past and childhood memories.
She reverts to places in her maternal grandparents’ home, a house crammed with exciting objects, such as stuffed animals and strange souvenirs from travels in faraway countries. She also gleans inspiration from other art, the theatre, films, music, dance and literature. There we find everything from Sandro Botticelli’s paintings of the seasons and the opera by Maria
Callas to Daphne du Maurier’s sinister romantic novels and Gunvor Nelson’s poetic experimental films.
